Board Member Bios

Erika Calle

Erika Calle was born in Quito and has 3 children attending Academia Cotopaxi. She has a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and Marketing from Universidad San Francisco de Quito and a Master of Business Administration from Maastricht School of Management/University of Nicosia in Cyprus. At present, Erika works as a sales manager for Ever Green Rose Farm. In 2009 she began her own company, Signos Vitales Cía Ltda, which is an International Training Center for the American Heart Association that offers international certified first aid courses to the community and health personnel in Ecuador. As well as this, Erika has been part of Hogar Para Sus Niños, a non-profit organization that cares for abandoned and orphaned children in Ecuador for the last 15 years. Erika has been part of  the Trustees committee and will now continue her work on the Board of Trustees.

 

Luis Flores

Luis was born in Quito and raised at Academia Cotopaxi. After starting PK at AC’s old Naciones Unidas campus and graduating at the our current campus in 1998, he went on to become an Electrical and Mechanical Engineer at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI). He now works as both a Management and Business consultant and an Executive Coach at PROFESA, as well as an active Mediator. He has been serving Academia Cotopaxi as an Associate, non-parent member of the Board of Trustees since 2012; he is passionate about supporting AC in becoming an innovative and vibrant learning community!

 

Natalia Houser 

Natalia Houser feels that Academia Cotopaxi is a special place for her. She has a long and close relationship with this school; she attended the school from Kinder all the way up to 12th grade and her son has been here since 1st grade. Natalia is a teacher here.  She believes that a person´s educational experience is crucial, shaping the way you think and the way you approach different situations.  She brings her knowledge of, and experience in, education to the board.

 

Scott McDonald

Scott McDonald is the Counselor for Management Affairs at the U.S. Embassy and serves as the Ambassador's representative on the Board of Trustees.  He has been in the U.S. Foreign Service for over 20 years, serving mostly in Asia, including a tour in Malaysia where he was a member of the school board at the International School of Kuala Lumpur.   Prior to his diplomatic career, Mr. McDonald was an educator, which included service as a Peace Corps volunteer in Ghana and work with Southeast Asian refugees in the Philippines.

 

Patrick Muller

Patrick Muller graduated from Academia Cotopaxi in 1994.  He was born in Quito from Swiss and Colombian parents.  He is currently  the CEO of Aromcolor S.A. He has two daughters Martina and Luciana who currently attend AC. He is serving his second year of a three year term on the AC Board.  Having such a diverse background and having attended all his school life at AC, allows Patrick to bring a broad perspective for the development of the school. Patrick enjoys fencing, riding bikes and spending time with his family. Patrick is pleased to be a part of this community and be able to help shape AC for the future.  

 

Maximiliano Proaño

Max has more than 25 years of international experience in Finance positions. His background is in business and finance. He joined the board in March 2011 and is a member of the board’s Finance Committee for the past four years.

 

Mark Vincent Russo Jr

Mark has been in education for 10 years at local and international schools as a teacher in Thailand, Switzerland and now Ecuador. He has a strong knowledge and background about the IB and this helps him to give valuable insights to our board when deciding policy and implementation. His experiences abroad at a variety of types of international schools have given him a great understanding into how schools are governed allowing him to work to maintain Academia Cotopaxi as a top notch school here in South America.

 

Jason Show

Jason and his family arrived to Quito, Ecuador in September 2014.  He and his wife, Carrie, have three daughters at Academia Cotopaxi.  Jason has a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and a Master’s Degree in Diplomatic and Military Studies.  After completing college, Jason spent several years working for Dell Inc., both in the United States and in Ireland.  He chose to leave the private sector to begin a career in public service and has spent the last six years working for the United States Department of State as a Foreign Service Officer in Washington D.C. and Mexico City.  He currently works as a Management Officer in the United States Embassy in Quito.

 

Dominic Straessle

Dominic is a Cotopaxi Alum, who studied Hospitality Management in Switzerland and attended AC from 5th grade to graduation. His children have attended Cotopaxi since Pre-Kinder. He has specialized his career in the food industry providing convenience, all natural, products, as well as refrigerated logistics services. He also works in commercial real estate. He has served on the Cotopaxi Board for six years, and is honored to be able to contribute to our community’s growth and improvement.
