Principal's Welcome

Dear Parents,

Welcome to the Middle School at Academia Cotopaxi! Academia Cotopaxi is a community that values diversity, embraces a culture of collaboration, innovation, and excellence, and inspires empathetic and ethical student leaders. We foster creativity, a spirit of inquiry, and the development of a lifelong love of learning through a wide variety of age appropriate program offerings.

The Middle School years are a pivotal time in a child’s life and our team of passionate educators is here to support your child’s individual needs. We value the intrinsic worth of each member of our community and are strengthened by our diversity. We facilitate the process of students understanding themselves as learners, how they can contribute to their local environment, and the role they play in the global community.

The Middle School learning journey incorporates the PYP inquiry approach to learning, and we embrace the IB student learner profile. Students in Grades 6 through 8 may have different teachers for Language Arts, Social Studies, Math, Science, Fine Arts, Spanish, PE, and Design Tech. Technology is integrated throughout our program. We are a BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) school, where student learning is enhanced through the appropriate use of technology. Social, emotional learning is facilitated by our mentor program, Cougar Time, and allows students and teachers to develop a connection apart from the traditional class setting.

Your child’s mentor teacher will provide you with details of our program of study through regular updates. There are also opportunities for communication through back-to-school nights, parent/teacher conferences, student-led conferences, and special events. The Academia Cotopaxi calendar and divisional newsletters will keep you informed of how you can stay involved in your child’s school experience.

I look forward to meeting you and your child this academic year!

With kind regards,

Sheryl Gruber
