This week, celebrate your child’s creativity as you enjoy the AC Elementary Art Exhibit. You can come anytime with your child between 5:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 8.
Our school mission states that “We are an English language-based international learning community,” and to that end, we are working to improve our English Language Learner (ELL) program and increase the focus on language learning across all disciplines. In order to better understand what type of support students need, we are collecting data on student language levels.
In May, some elementary students will be taking the WIDA Model exam. Those who will be taking the test are either currently active ELL students, or based on classroom data and observations, we have determined that it would be beneficial to assess language levels to support their learning. The WIDA Model is a comprehensive language exam that identifies proficiency levels in reading, writing, speaking, and listening. The assessment is completed at the end of the academic year in order to plan future learning steps for individual students and to make placement decisions for the next academic year. This data informs teacher planning to best meet the language needs of our students and allows students to identify their own strengths and areas for growth.
If your child is tested, results will be shared with you in June. If you have any questions regarding the WIDA, please contact the ELL Coordinator, Kourtney Wessels.
