HS Oct1

Dear Parents and Community Members,

There are several important announcements from our Counseling Department. Please note that we are reviewing numbers for the Discover Ecuador trips. I will be in touch soon.

On behalf of the counseling team we would like to share a community event put on by the Universidad San Francisco. On October 2, three Harvard University psychiatry professors will provide a parent workshop: "Anxiety in Children and Adolescents: How to know if it's not just a phase?" The presentation will be given in English with Spanish translation. AC is in no way coordinating or endorsing this event but we would like to share the information for any parents who are interested.
Information and registration, here.

IB Corner
Many of our seniors have completed their Extended Essay, a formal piece of academic writing on a subject, topic and question of their choosing that is mandatory for our IB Diploma Candidates. We are inviting all community members to see their work at our annual EE Gallery Walk on Monday, October 7 during our Global Citizen Time (11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.)

College Counseling News

The PSAT will occur at Academia Cotopaxi at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 19. Your student must arrive by 8:30 a.m. There is no cost. This is not obligatory. Academia Cotopaxi is not responsible for transportation and students are responsible for bringing their own snacks.

However, if your student is planning on applying to the United States, I would recommend him/her taking the PSAT. If he or she is a non-IB Diploma candidate applying to Canada, I would recommend him or her taking the PSAT. The PSAT is not necessary if your student is only interested in the UK. The PSAT is 95% unnecessary if your student is applying to Europe.

The PSAT stands for Practice SAT, and the only people who will see the results are the test taker, Mr. Wasser, and the student’s family. Universities will not see the result.

*You must sign up by Monday, October 14.

  • Do you Want Financial Aid from a United States University?

If the answer is yes, on October 1, not before, you can begin filling out the CSS Profile & FAFSA.

If your student is applying to one of the following schools, you must check to see if you must complete the CSS Profile. You enter this system using your son or daughter’s CollegeBoard username and password.

If your son or daughter is a US citizen or permanent resident, you must also fill out the FAFSA.

Failure to do these things could result in your son or daughter’s university application being considered incomplete or your son or daughter being ineligible for any type of financial aid or scholarship.

If you have questions, please contact Mr. Wasser, who is willing to work directly with your confidential information if you give him permission.

  • College and University Visits

We will have university visits the next 10 school days! Check them out here. You are always welcome and free to attend.
