Standards Based Grading
The Middle School is now fully immersed in Standards Based Grading. Some of you have inquired about what you might expect to see in Skyward at this point. This will vary from class to class. For certain classes, a standard may be one that students will see all year, and thus your child may still be at the Developing stage, and this may be perfectly acceptable. In other classes, the standard may end within a few weeks, and therefore we would want most students to be Proficient at that standard. Please know that, as always, teachers will communicate if there is a concern, and that you are always welcome to contact your child’s teachers and inquire about your child’s progress toward a given standard.

Symphony Concert
On Wednesday, October 16 AC is delighted to host a very special concert. We had a last minute opportunity for OSNE (Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional del Ecuador) to perform at our school, so we jumped on the chance and our stellar music department is taking the lead on turning an opportunity into a reality. Many students will be attending a morning concert, and we are also making these concerts available to parents. You are cordially invited to attend the OSNE concert, either from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. or from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., in the AC Auditorium. This event is free of charge and is guaranteed to be a musical treat.

Counselor’s Corner
This week in Cougar Time we are exploring Friendships, including how friendships can change over time and how excluding others affect the community. Throughout the Middle School years, friendships and social dynamics evolve. As kids look to find a sense of belonging, we can help them foster inclusion and handle the exclusion they may face. Find some tips on how to talk to your child about this in the article: Helping Kids Cope with Cliques
