College Counseling & Life Beyond AC

Personalized Guidance for Global University Pathways

The College Counseling Program at Academia Cotopaxi provides intentional, individualized support for every high school student. Through regular 1:1 meetings, a structured four-year framework, and access to global exploration tools, each student develops a personalized post-secondary plan designed around academic, personal, and financial “fit.”

Our goal is to ensure every student — and every family — feels informed, confident, and supported throughout the exploration, application, and decision-making process.

A Four-Year College Counseling Framework (Grades 9–12)

Beginning in Grade 9, students follow a comprehensive, developmentally aligned program that builds self-awareness, strengthens academic planning, and gradually prepares them for university applications.

Each year expands students’ understanding of global university systems, academic pathways, and career options while reinforcing strong organizational, research, and reflection skills.

Unifrog: A Global Platform for Exploration & Applications

Students begin using Unifrog in Grade 9 to explore post-secondary options around the world. Through this platform, they can:

  • Research global universities, majors, and career pathways

  • Complete personality, interest, and aptitude assessments

  • Build and refine college lists

  • Access resume, essay, and application resources

  • Track deadlines and submit required documents in Grades 11–12

Unifrog becomes the central organizational hub for students’ entire college process.

Individualized 1:1 Counseling

Each student meets with the college counselor multiple times per year, with meetings increasing in frequency during the junior and senior years. These sessions may include:

  • Academic planning and course selection

  • Developing and refining college lists

  • Application strategy and timeline planning

  • Essay coaching and portfolio guidance

  • Recommendation and document support

  • Financial aid and scholarship conversations

  • Decision-making guidance and comparative offer analysis

Families are invited to participate during key meetings to ensure aligned expectations and clear communication.

Our College Counselor is an active member of:

  • International Association for College Admission Counseling (IACAC)

  • Times Higher Education (THE)

They regularly attend regional and international conferences, as well as university fly-in programs, ensuring up-to-date expertise in global admissions trends.

Senior-Year Application Support

In Grade 12, students receive intensive, personalized guidance throughout the entire application cycle. Support includes:

  • Essay feedback and revision

  • Application review and proofreading

  • Recommendation coordination

  • Document submission (transcripts, forms, reports)

  • Financial aid and scholarship counseling

  • Strategic decision-making for offers, deferrals, and waitlists

The goal is to ensure students feel confident, organized, and empowered during one of the most important years of their academic journey.

A Focus on Well-Being and Balanced Outcomes

Our college counseling philosophy prioritizes student well-being above all else. We help students develop balanced college lists that reflect their strengths, aspirations, and financial considerations, while promoting realistic expectations and healthy decision-making.

Counselors offer academic and emotional support throughout all stages — from early exploration to final enrollment.
