Middle School

A crowded outdoor area with a large building entrance, colorful banners, and people gathered around tables and benches.

At Academia Cotopaxi, we understand that the Middle School years (Grades 6–8) are a distinct and vital period of rapid physical, social, and emotional development. Our division is intentionally structured to be an age-appropriate community where students can truly be Middle Schoolers. This focus allows us to cultivate a strong Middle School identity, where students feel comfortable being themselves, exploring their emerging interests, and stepping into their roles as future leaders.

Our Learning Approach

Reflection that Builds Self-Discovery

Reflection is central to how students learn and grow in Middle School. Throughout the year, students regularly examine their progress, set goals, and think deeply about how they learn best.

Experiential Learning in Middle School

Our Middle School program is built around experiential learning that connects classroom skills to the real world. Students regularly take part in hands-on academic experiences such as local field trips, Model United Nations (MUN) conferences, and a wide range of local and international academic competitions. These opportunities help students learn through action, deepen understanding, and build confidence as thinkers and leaders.

Discover Ecuador: Outdoor Education That Builds Community

A highlight of our Middle School experience is Discover Ecuador, our annual four-day outdoor education trip. This immersive excursion gives students the chance to explore Ecuador’s rich landscapes and cultures while strengthening essential skills like teamwork, problem-solving, independence, and resilience. Just as importantly, students build strong grade-level friendships and a deeper sense of belonging alongside their classmates.

A Vibrant Student-Centered Community

Middle School is also a time for connection and joy. Our community is a fun, supportive, and vibrant learning environment where students take the lead in shaping school life. Throughout the year, students participate in student-led gatherings that include friendly competitions, activities, assemblies, and celebrations. These moments help students develop leadership, collaboration, and a strong sense of school spirit.

Finding Purpose and Voice

Through real-world learning and strong community engagement, students discover their personal voice, passions, and purpose. Our Middle School experiences are designed to shape well-rounded, confident individuals who are prepared to lead lives of impact, meaning, and joy—both in Ecuador and around the world.
